'For people who work in engineering, these huge installations are truly fascinating'

As a project engineer, Danny is involved in large-scale maintenance projects to keep Twence's facilities in top condition. Within the organisation, he is one of the catalysts for implementing Lean thinking. In addition to his daily work activities, he also gives guided tours at Twence, simply because he enjoys doing so.

Danny's previous work environment at a smaller company did not offer him the professional challenges he was looking for. There, he achieved no further growth; projects were always of the same nature and this would not change anytime soon. Time for him to take on a new challenge: Twence. It turned out to be the perfect opportunity for Danny to step out of his comfort zone and take on a dynamic new role. "When I first started working here, I had little idea of how everything was processed and performed. I had a somewhat dirty image in mind, mainly because of the associations with waste disposal. But contact with waste is actually limited."

Within Twence, Danny has the freedom to set his own course. There are plenty of chances and opportunities for him to grow: "What I like about this company is the open atmosphere and the support you get to achieve goals. As a company, we contribute significantly to social issues. That makes me a proud employee. Working together and getting things done together. And as an engineer, I find the gigantic installations at Twence fascinating. The opportunity to be involved in these technological aspects is really cool."

Danny also gives tours to show people what Twence produces from all the waste. People often have the idea that separating waste makes no sense and that everything will end up in the same oven anyway. "Well, that idea usually changes quickly after the tour and we hope that people do keep separating their waste at home. They are often surprised, not only by the waste treatment itself, but also by what ends up coming out in terms of raw materials and energy."
