“Despite the turbulent external environment, we have achieved a strong financial result. Together with our shareholders and partners, we remain committed to realising our ambitions for a more sustainable region. In the coming year, we will be focusing on, among other things, continued CO capture, the development of the regional heating network and the improvement of our water management.”

A complex environment calls for clear choices

The industry operates in a complex and uncertain environment. Geopolitical developments, changing legislation, potential increases in CO₂ levies and waste taxes, and an unfavourable investment climate are putting pressure on the sector. This calls for clear and realistic decisions regarding long-term objectives.

Strong growth in raw material recovery and energy

Twence actively contributes to the transition to a circular economy and a sustainable regional energy supply. In 2025, over 1.1 million tonnes of waste and biomass were processed.
Thanks to innovations and the use of new technologies, Twence was able to further increase the amount of raw materials recovered. A total of 328 kilotonnes of raw materials were returned to the circular economy, including metals, liquid CO₂, compost and fertilisers, a significant increase compared to 2024.

The production of renewable energy also continued to rise. Twence generated 354 GWh of renewable electricity, equivalent to the electricity consumption of over 155,000 households. In addition, 550 GWh of heat and 37 GWh of green gas were generated. Taken together, this is equivalent to the energy consumption of nearly 67,000 households.

Innovation: the driving force behind sustainability

Innovation remains a key driver of Twence's sustainability ambitions. For example, the solar park in Zenderen opened in 2025, generating enough electricity to power 3,800 households. A large-scale CO₂ capture plant was also commissioned, marking a significant step towards cleaner air and the reuse of CO₂. At the end of 2025, Twence supplied green gas produced from organic waste to the grid for the first time. In addition, an agreement was reached with ten shareholder municipalities on the self-supply of sustainably generated electricity.
